Before turning in your walking and running worksheet, answer the following questions:
1) According to your worksheet, approximately how long (in minutes) would it take you to walk 1 kilometer? Do you believe this is true? Why or why not?
2) Approximately how long (in minutes) would it take you to run 1 kilometer? Do you believe this is true? Why or why not?
3) As you see, setting up proportions can help us solve so many different types of problems by setting smaller ratios equal to larger ones. But what about Question #7? Without comparing your ratios with other groups, do you think there will be a correlation between walk times and leg length measurements? If so, what do you think the correlation is? If not, why do you think there isn't one?

1) According to the worksheet, I can walk 1 kilometer in 10 minutes and 16 seconds. I do not think that this is accurate because I cannnot walk at the same pace all the time. I might get a little tired and start walking a little slower. I might want to look at the grass and slow down.
ReplyDelete2) It will take me approximately 4 minutes and 26 seconds to run one kilometer. Again, I do not think that the number is accurate. I might pause to catch my breath a couple of times. I also might get distracted with other things. My feet may feel sore so I would slow down.
3) No, I do not think that there is a correlation. My brother is quite short, but he is the fastest runner in KIS's middle school cross-country team. A person with long legs may not be flexible. That person may have stiff legs, so the person's strides will be short. A person may have a slow walking pace even though he/she has long legs. It mainly depends on if a person feels comfortable walking fast or slow.
1. It would take me 9 minutes and 48 seconds(rounded) to walk a kilometer according to the worksheet. I don't think this is true nor possible for me!!! This is because I am not really on the athletic side and after a while I slow down and start stopping to rest. Also I never ever had a good pace...
ReplyDelete2. It would take me 3 minutes and 54 seconds (rounded) to run a kilometer. I think this is inaccurate because I have a really bad pace when I'm walking, so I would have an even worse pace while running, I would have to stop and drink water very often.
3. I don't think there is a correlation because just because a person's leg is long, it doesn't mean that that person is strong, athletic, or can run faster. Some of my friends are short and they are very athletic and fast at running!!!! I think I'm kind of on the tall side but I am probably the slowest runner I know.....
1) According to my worksheet, it will take me approximately 9 minutes and 3 seconds to walk a kilometer. However, I don't think it is true because nobody can keep the exact same pace while walking a kilometer, or maybe even a meter. They might stop because they are tired or for other reasons. Humans are not robots!
ReplyDelete2) According to my worksheet, it will take me 3 minutes and 3 seconds to run a kilometer. However, I don't think it is true because keeping the same pace when you are walking is challenging, let alone running. You will have to stop more often while running to drink or catch your breath, which will hinder your pace.
3) I don't think there is a correlation because a person's speed doesn't depend entirely on leg length. Logically, if a person's leg is longer then their strides become longer and they can walk/run faster. However, in real life, their legs might be weak or inflexible which will slow them down. There are many fast runners who are short, like a few of my friends.
1)It would take me about 11 minutes 11 seconds to walk a kilometer. I think it is not true because it is only if you walk in the same rate for a kilometer. I can't keep the same rate the whole time.
ReplyDelete2)It would take me about 4 minutes 19 seconds to run a kilometer. I think it is not true. It is the same reason as above. I wouldn't be able to keep the same pace.
3)I think there is a correlation and I also think there is no correlation. Even though having long legs is not a big advantage, you can still run a bit faster if two people have the same strength. But people don't have the same strength, so even though some people's legs are longer, that run slower.
1) The worksheet says that it would take me 12.8 minutes to walk a kilometer. I think it is not true because it takes me about 10 minutes to RUN a mile which is close to 1km. So it would not take 12.8min. for me to WALK a kilometer.
ReplyDelete2) It takes me 4.9 minutes for me to run 1km. It is not true since it takes me about 10 minutes to walk a mile which is similar to one kilometer.
3) I think there is no correlation in having long legs and your speed of running because even though you have long legs you might have a slow pace. Or you could have short legs but a fast pace so you can be fast.
1) it said i could walk a kilometer in 11.18. I think that it is true becuase that sounds reasonable.
ReplyDelete2)It said it would take me 3.6 minutes to run a kilometer which sounds very similar because it just sounds reasonable becuase i think im pretty fast and i get itred after i run that fast.
3)There is a corolation between leg length and walking distance because if you walk one step you can walk farther than someone else if you have longer legs.
1. According to the data, I will walk a kilometer in 620 seconds which equals to about 10 mintues and 20 seconds. (When I walked slowly) I think it is accurate but for most of the people its not because if they walked at their fastest rate, they will get tired or stop in the middle of a kilometer. So for me, I walked in a steady pace so I think I will make it but overall, this is not a realistic data because this is only the unit rate.
ReplyDelete2. It takes about 220 seconds, which is 3 mintues and 40 seconds to run a mile. Also for this I wasn't running my fastest however I will get tired during the run so on this data it is really un accurate because I will stop or jog in the middle of the run. Again, this is only the unit rate so it is not realistic.
3. Question 7 doesn't use ratios, not exactly. But without comparing, I don't think there is a relationship between the leg lenth between how fast you run or walk. First you may think one maybe faster when the leg lenth is longer because you can go more per second. However, running doesn't all depend on the legs. Leg lenth maybe one factor but that's not the main reason for the speed. So, this is only one factor which makes it not really reliable.
1) According to my worksheet, I would walk for 610 sec which is about 10 minutes 17 seconds to walk 1 kilometer. I don't think it is true because I walked quite fast when I was walking 20 meters so I might walk slower or not at same pace.
ReplyDelete2) According to my worksheet, I would run for 240sec which is 4 minutes to run 1 kilometer. I can't run for 4 minutes straight.. I will get to tired and out of breath... So I think that I will run not at same pace or run much slower.
3) I don't think there is a coreelation between walk times and leg length measurements. Person with shorter leg length might walk much faster than the person with longer leg length. I think it all depends on that person and every one has different time even if they have same leg length.
1) according to the worksheet it says that I could walk 1 kilo in 630 seconds shich is 10 minutes 30 seconds. This would be qpprox. but not quite because I will probably speed up or slow down on the way.
ReplyDelete2) again my worksheet was wrong when it said that I could run 1 kilo in 215 seconds, which is about 3 minutes 35 seconds. For this one I would slow down or stop to catch a breath so my time will increase.
3) There really isn't a coreelation because people could have short legs but strong leg power which will cause the person to go faster.
1. i could walk a kelometer in 11 minutes and 66 secondsbut it would take me a longer time since i would get tired in the way and slow down.
ReplyDelete2.it would take me 3 minutes and 33 seconds but i beleive would not be because i would slowdown or speed up while i am running
3.no there isnt one because there is not relation with the leg lengths and how long it takes time to run or walk a distance.
1) According to my worsheet, approximately it will take me 8 minutes to walk 1 kilometer. I think it is not true. I might get tired while walking, and I will have to rest for sometime.
ReplyDelete2) It approximately take me 4 minutes and 15 seconds, but I think it is not true. I am sure I will slow down my speed while running.
3) No, I don't think so. Leg length doesn't really affect the time that takes you to walk/run.
1) According to the data, I could walk 1 kilometer in 650 seconds, or 10 minutes 50 seconds. I don't think this is true because the paces can change anytime and I might want to stop to rest. The paces from the time we recorded our data and the time we walk a kilometer will definitely be different.
ReplyDelete2) According to the data, I could run 1 kilometer in 250 seconds, or 4 minutes and 10 seconds. Okay, it will take me more than that to run 1 kilometer. I don't think anybody can run without stopping for 4 minutes straight.
3) I don't think there will be a correlation between one's leg length and walk times because it really depends on the person. If it is an athletic person with short legs, I bet they can go faster than a person with long legs. I think the walk time will be different even if you had the same leg measurement.
#1) According to the data, I can walk 1 kilmeter in 11minutes 58secondes or 695 seconds. I think this result is not true because if I walk, I can stop or slow down or speed up. So it isn;t accurate.
ReplyDelete#2) According to the data, I can run i kilometer in 215 seconds or 3 minutes 58 seconds. I also think that is not true because when measuring the amount, I ran as fast as i can and I don't think i can remain this pace.
#3) I don't think there is a correlation because there can be a lot of varies that can cause different results such as a person with long leg, or a person who has a short leg but talented, or someone who has a normal leg with a positive attiude about it.
1. According to my worksheet, it say it would approximately take me 11 minutes and 40 seconds to walk 1 kilometer. I believe this isn't true because I would be able to speed up, or slow down if I wanted to. Also, I could also run out of energy, which would make me slow down a great amount.
ReplyDelete2. It would approximately take me 7 minutes and 20 seconds to run 1 kilometer. This also would be false because if continued to run, I would eventually slow down with exhaustion.
3. I don't think that there is a correlation. This is because it all depends on how much energy a person has. For example, a person with short legs could have much more energy than a person with long legs. Also, it can be the other way around.
1. According to my worksheet, it would take 850 seconds, or about 14 minutes and 17 seconds to walk one kilometer. However, this is probably not exactly true because my speed may vary since I might speed up or slow down; I won't go at exactly the same pace the whole time.
ReplyDelete2. According to my worksheet, it would take 250 seconds, or about 4 minutes and 17 seconds for me to run one kilometer. For the same reason as for #1, my speed may differ. I might get tired and slow down, which would change my time dramatically. I might speed up if I see a dog I want to pet. There is little chance that I'll go at the same pace the whole time.
3. I think that there isn't a correlation. Just because someone's legs are long, that doesn't mean that they are in perfect condition. People with shorter legs could also be fast because their legs might be more flexible and they might be able to afford to make longer strides. It also depends on how much effort was made in the activity to walk or run as fast as one could.
1. according to my worksheet, it takes 10 minutes and 30 seconds. though I have calculated it right (or not), my health won't be so constant for 1 kilometer. I could go faster or slower somewhere in the middle. Humans are not constant like robots
ReplyDelete2. my worksheet says that it will take me around 3 minutes and 45 seconds to run a kilometer. by the way, I'm not a very good marathon player so I go really fast for 50 meters if I want, but after it is just regret of my recklessness.
3. I bet there is the very best leg with the best condition of running. but maybe there is no correlation. although short legs require a lot of energy, It has less air blocking its way. long legs don't need a lot of energy but has more air in the way than the shorts. it is like choosing a kind of a character from online games. knights may have great strength but not so much of magic or defense. thieves have great agility but not much strength. magicians have great magic power for it wont have enough of other things. and this is how every one is balanced!
1. According to my worksheet, it takes about 11 minutes to walk 1 kilometer. I don't believe this because I may slow down or speed up so pace will be different. So result will be different.
ReplyDelete2. According to my worksheet, it takes about 5 minutes to 6 minutes to run 1 kilometer. I don't believe this result because when I started to run I might slow down, and my pace changes every moment.
3. I think there will be a correlation between walk times and leg length measurements. Because when we run with dog or cat, their leg length is shorter than us and we are faster than pets. And also when I walk with children, we are faster than them and our leg length are longer then them. So I think there is a correlation between walk times and leg length.
1) According to my worksheet, it takes approximately 10 minutes to walk 1 kilometer. I don't believe the result because sometimes, when you get tired, you have to slow down. Also, when you are competing with others, you automatically speeds up.
ReplyDelete2) According to my worksheet, it takes about 5 minutes to run 1 kilometer. I don't believe this is true because you slow down when you are tired.
3) I don't think there is a correlation between the leg length measurement and the time because the time differs by the length of 2 legs. So if you walk 3 meters per step, you will walk faster than the person who walks 1 meter per step.
