Review Game

Invent a new review game for the end of a chapter. How would it be structured? Would there be a clearly-defined winner? Make sure this game incorporates everyone in the class, where everyone is actively reviewing the material on some level.

  1. I think the best way to play a review game for the end of a chapter would be doing a jeopardy on solving equations, inequality, finding area of rectangle and triangle. So people will get into groups of 3 or 4 people. When the questions come out on the screen they solve and write their answers on their own separate sheet of paper. So if they choose the certain amount of points, and if they get the question right, they earn the certain amount of points they chose. However, if they get the question wrong, then they lose certain amount of points they chose. So they will count the total points they earned and they will bet the points to the final question. However, points are limited to the points they earned when they were in groups. So who ever gets the highest points wins.

  2. We can make a contest of variety of categories such as inequalities, Two-step equation and Also random questions such as order of operation or exponents.First we hand out a sheet of paper and you have to get 10 stamps. The 5 first 10 stamp winner gets a lolipop. However there are different level of students so, we can add some more stamps to higher level people.
Another game is you divide in half ( you are teams then.) You send one people out each time and you have to win of rock, paper, scissor and if you lose, you have to spin a spinner with different types f math question. the Both team can solve it because if the person who lost rock, paper, scissor got wrong, they get a chance to steal. The most team with the correct answer will get a sweet or a lolipop.

  3. Note: This game contains a lot of jumping, running, and thinking

Background: Like any other day, we came to school. We had our bags thrown at the desk and we were all excited because he promised us to give us new pink pins that he got in Japan. So, we were waiting for Mr. Jobe. Well it was pretty weird that the door was opened when Mr. Jobe wasn't there. But anyway, we thought he went to the cafeteria to get some lunch. We were waiting, and waiting, and waiting.... Albert just couldn't wait more after waiting for 10 minutes after the bell has rung and he went to Mr. Jobe's desk to see if there was any note or something. "Woah, What the heck is this" said Albert and he showed to the whole class. The note: "We got ur mr. jobe. To save him and get pink pins, come to our anti-math castle. P.S it ain't easy to come to our castle. By: his dear cousin" and there was a map. We all got a pass from the principle's office and we went off to find the castle and thats how it started....

    Instructions:
NOTE: This is the first step of the journey
    1. The evil clone of Mr. Jobe will be the judge
    2. There will be 4 blocks that represents ‹, ›, ≤, ≥
    3. The evil clone of Mr. Jobe shall give us some word problems, and we need to jump to the block that represents the sign that is used in the word problem.
    4. There will be NO talking
    5. If you got one wrong, you are out which means they take you to where mr. Jobe is, and locked and blindfolded.
    Gud Luck....

For the ones who passed, you won't pass this...
    1. There will be 4 corners that are named 1, 2, 3, 4
    2. The second evil clone of Mr. Jobe shall tell which corner contains what answer and he may repeat it after a couple of times. He shall give you the questions to. (he has to stand in the middle) The problem will be a algebraic word problem.
    3. You must go to the right corner according to the answer
    4. There will be NO talking or hand jestures or ANYTHING
    Gud luck...

For the ones that have been captured...
You are with Mr. Jobe, chatting and the guy that guards the gate is glaring at you. He speaks Jobeian language so he doesn't understand you. Although he bans you from talking. The guard offers you food if you each can solve problem. (the winners gets candy)

After the 4 corners, the survivors have reached to the castle of Jobe, in spanish pronounced as Hobe.
The bridge was covered with clone hobos so it was hard to get cross. The hobos tell you to solve each problems. and there are 12 hobos
Unfortunetely, the boss, Jobo, had set a timebomb in the bridge, and it will collapse if you don't solve these questions in 2 minutes.
    NOW GET STARTED.....

When we reached to Jobo, he really looked like our teacher Mr. Jobe. Well, actually we realized it was really Mr. Jobe because of the ring in his finger. He was a teacher with 2 character like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and he came back to normal after we poured water on his face.
Since he was really sorry for all the trouble, we shall all get a candy.

    The END

  4. Get into house teams! WOOHOO! Mr. Jobe writes a problem on the board, and using mental math, discuss it over with your house team. Whichever house team first claps 3 times all together gets to answer first, however if they are wrong another house team can clap their hands 3 times all together and answer. Each house that answers correctly gets a point.
    REMEMBER: NO PAPER!!!!!!

note: If the number of people in each house team is not equal, then some people can switch houses, just for this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Albert's idea is very common. I think Albert can be more creative. I think he thought of that idea because a lot of teachers use jeopardy to review. however I think doing other than jeopardy might be better because it is too common and doing same things with other class doesn't make math class special.

  6. I think for a review game, a game like monopoly or candyland would be good. There would be certain squares where you would solve problems. And if you go to jail you have to solve a random problem or else you can't come out of the jail. When you come out of the jail, you have to start from the beginning. Every ten squares, there will be a question mark where you have to draw a card to do a word problem. you only have 1 minute and 30 seconds to solve the whole problem. The first person to go to the end of chapter! box wins and gets a special candy. The others get normal candy for participating. 2 ~ 5 people can play.

  7. I think playing a normal problem solving game in pairs is the simplest but still acedmic review game. Mr. Jobe would write the problems up on the board and whenever the pair gets it right, he would add a tally for the team.
Another game is jepordy, and you know how to play jepordy, right? Scores from 100 to 500 will be shown and each team will call out a number and a problem would be up on the screen. The class solves it and if the team gets the wrong answer, the next team goes. And so on.

  8. First, the people will round up into a circle. Then, a game instructor will choose a random person to anwer the first question. If the person anwering gets it right/wrong, he/she will choose one person to answer the second question or correct the first. a score keeper will put a mark if you answered the question correctly. One person will have 3 tries. When everyone had three tries, the score keeper will find out the person/people who got all three of their tries correctly. this person/people will get a treat.

  9. I like J's game because it was very creative and looked fun. But I think he could have made a better ending to the story. And he could have made it a bit realistic so we could really play it in math class. I think this is just a story, and not something we can play in class for a review game. Overall, his idea was very good.

  10. Review Game

The class divides into groups, and have separate games. This would make it less complicated, and will be easier to play. First, if there is four people in the group, they each write down on one or two pieces of paper a whole integer. It can be a positive or negative whole number. After everyone has finished writing down their number(s), they mix them up together upside-down so nobody knows where their number is. When you are done doing that, each person will pick a piece of paper in the pile, and you cannot show anyone else. For example, if you pick the number -4, you keep it to yourself, so nobody else knows your number. After picking the number, you quickly write down an inequality of that number. Then you show the other people in your group your inequality. The first person who figures out the number gets a point. You repeat this until everyone is done. After everyone is finished, you add up all of the points, and whoever got the most points win.

  11. Each pair of students make a question about equations, inequalities, or area/perimeter of quadrilaterals or triangles. The pairs choose this at the beginning so that there are 6 groups each doing the different types of questions. When they finish writing, they wait until everyone is done writing it. When everyone is finished writing it, they pass it on to the next group, and that's where the game starts. Every time you finish one, depending on which column you are in (the first two or the second two), you pass the question back or forwards to the next pair, even if h you are finished, THEY aren't. You will write all your answers on a separate sheet of paper. At the end, when you get your question back, you raise your hand. Mr. Jobe will come over and check your answers, and if you are the first one done with all the right answers, you get a prize. However, if you get even ONE wrong, you have to try to figure out which one was wrong, because Mr. Jobe won't tell you which one was wrong, he'll just tell you how many are. We go over the questions at the end.

  12. I think that Albert's game should be more creative. We used a lot of jeopardy games to reveiw for social studies and in PAC during the assembly. I think something more should be added to it. I think that jeopardy is fun to play, but it is just not really creative.

  13. We can have a word problem 'golden bell'. So, the first problem will be the easiest one, and the following ones will become harder and harder. The person or people who survives until the last problem will get prizes (candy). The people who gets a problem wrong in the middle of the game can solve the next problems, but they are out of the contest so they can't be the winner. However, the person who gets the most problems right in that group will receive a candy.

  14. J's sounds...fun....very..um...imaginative..ITLL BE FUN!!!!

  15. I think that jeopardy will be the best review game because (1) the competition will help people focus (2) it will help people review concepts in a fun way. Students will be divided into teams to quickly solve the concepts. Whichever group gets the answer the fastest, that group says the answer, and if correct, they get to chose the next question. Points may or may not be deducted if the answer is incorrect. The group that gets the most points gets extra credit or candy.

  16. Cindy's idea is very creative and I think that this will be a creative way to review chapter 3. I like her idea because it involves competing against each other and yourself to watch your carelessness and more.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I like Linette's idea because it involves mental math and house spirit!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I like Jessica's idea, because everyone in the class can practice both writing problems and solving them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think Lizzie's idea is too simple. However, I think we can get familiar to math by reviewing what we've learned.

  20. I think J's game will be fun and suitable for reviewing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I thinkk that J's is good and it will be fun, but it's like a story he is telling. Well, anyways, I like that idea.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I like Linette's idea because we can show our house spirit, and and we can improve on our mental math skills. It can also help us solve problems faster.

  23. I think that playing the game like bingo was fun, except that we should put in more options so that more people can have a chance to win. For example, we used to have one row, one column, one T shape and the whole board or something. This time, we add diagonal as well, and also even if one person got a column, if he got the third one, the other three columns are still open for people to get. In the end, the person who got the most one wins.

  24. Linnete's Idea sounds fun, simple and engage house spirit, but it is not detailed. Although it is suitable for a quick fun game.

Cindy's game will be fun and competetive but I think Golden Bell is already a game made by another since we know it is called Golden Bell. So I think she should create more new rules and change the name.

Albert's game is rather commonly played so we have an advantage of knowing the game already. On the other hand, since the game is supposed to be creative, he could change some rules and format and change the name into a creative name

    ^^ :) LOL ;) :P ^.^ *.*

  25. We should have questions for jeopardy with different types of catagories with word problems and caculations. however, te student might choose what they are the best at so the teacher would choose a caatagory and a number and the first group would answer the question and the first group would choose the catagory and the number and the second group would answer it

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think we should have a list of questions and then we could do the thing we did last time, sort into teams and call them A, B, C, D... etc. But maybe we should this time have a bigger group, like a group or 5 or 4 so that we could have 2 challenges, make sure all of the people in your team got the answer right and compete with other teams and also compete with the people in ur team.

I like Jay the survivor's idea because it was creative and fun but you can still do it and learn!!

  27. Grab the answer game

First, divide the class into two teams (each team should stand in a line)
Second, the board will already have different types of answers. Which includes the right anwers and wrong answers (the answer could be written on post its)
Thrid, the teacher gives a problem
Fourth, each student in the front of the line of each team works on the porblem to get the answer
Fifth, which ever student gets the answer first, goes to grab the answer from the board
Sixth, continue until everyone gets a turn
Lastly, count the number of post its to determine the winning team
    The winning team gets prize

  28. I think it is a good way to jeopardy based on the chapter. The teacher will pair the students and they will play it. And they solve the problems and the pair that has the highest point wins.
