Write an Inequality Word Problem

We've solved a few word problems that require us to set up inequalities and solve them, but now it's your turn.

Working in partners, write a word problem that will require the reader to set up an inequality and solve. You must use complete sentences, and the word problem needs to be school appropriate.

Be creative! Good luck!

If Justin entered the haunted house again, how much longer would he have to scream to beat Ryan's record? Write an inequality.

  11. Sabin was collecting candies during the Halloween with Ryan and Justin. Justin dressed up as Princess, Ryan dressed up as Batman, and Sabin dressed up as Hulk. People thought Justin and Ryan were cute and gave them 30 candies. But people thought Sabin was too scary so they gave him only 25 candies. Their goal was to get a least 50 candies. They went to Jusin's home and played leaving Sabin alone. At least how many candies should Sabin collect in order for him to go to and play Justin's house?

    The Contest

Mr. Jobe is competing with Mr. Forrestal in a contest. Mr. Forrestal likes to eat cup cakes. In order to beat Mr. Forrestal who has 1000 strands of hair Mr. Jobe needs, at least 200 more strands of hair. Mr. Jobe uses the Costa Rican barber shop in Korea. He loves how the barber cut his hair but has to stop going there in order to beat Mr. Forrestal. The loser has to buy the winner galbi. Solve this problem in inequality.

  16. I like Serim and Linette's idea about the screaming in the haunted house because (1) it's related to Halloween and (2) no one ever though of a word problem involving screaming - it's very original

  17. I like J's idea because it helps people identify the "junk information" and the important information. His word problem is very confusing to those who think ALL of the information is important
